Tehri Garhwal
**Surkanda Devi Temple** is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga, located near Dhanaulti in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Perched at an altitude of approximately 2,757 meters (9,045 feet), the temple offers stunning panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the surrounding forested valleys. Surkanda Devi is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and holds immense spiritual importance — it is believed to be the spot where the head of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva was carrying her charred body across the sky. The temple is accessible via a steep but scenic 2 km trek from the village of Kaddukhal, which lies on the road between Mussoorie and Chamba. Surkanda Devi is especially popular during the **Ganga Dussehra** festival in May/June, when thousands of devotees make the pilgrimage. The serene environment, crisp mountain air, and mythological significance make it a fulfilling experience for both spiritual seekers and nature lovers.
