Roopkund trek

Overview

The Roopkund Trek is a captivating high-altitude Himalayan adventure located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. Known for its mysterious Skeleton Lake, where hundreds of ancient human skeletons lie preserved at the bottom, this trek offers a unique mix of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and spiritual significance. The trail climbs up to an altitude of approximately 15,750 feet, taking trekkers through dense oak and rhododendron forests, expansive alpine meadows like Bedni and Ali Bugyal, and snow-covered landscapes with breathtaking views of peaks such as Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. Culturally rich, the route also passes through remote Himalayan villages and ancient temples. The Roopkund Trek is best suited for moderately experienced trekkers due to its challenging terrain and high altitude. Typically completed in 7 to 8 days, it is best undertaken between May–June and September–October, avoiding the monsoon and extreme winter months. This trek is an unforgettable experience for those seeking adventure, natural splendor, and a brush with history.
