Overview

Nanda Devi National Park, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its spectacular mountainous terrain and rich biodiversity. Centered around Nanda Devi, the second-highest peak in India, the park encompasses rugged cliffs, deep gorges, alpine meadows, and glacial landscapes. This protected area is home to a variety of rare and endangered species, including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan musk deer, bharal (blue sheep), and numerous bird species like the Himalayan monal. The park’s pristine environment is a haven for trekkers and nature enthusiasts, offering challenging trails that lead through dense forests and alpine pastures. Besides its natural beauty, Nanda Devi National Park holds cultural and spiritual significance, with many local legends and traditions tied to the sacred peak. The park’s remote and rugged terrain helps preserve its fragile ecosystem, making it one of the most treasured natural reserves in the Indian Himalayas.
