Rudraprayag
Deoria Tal is a stunning high-altitude lake located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, at an elevation of approximately 2,438 meters (7,999 feet) above sea level. Nestled amidst dense forests of rhododendron and oak, the lake is famed for its crystal-clear reflections of the Chaukhamba peaks and tranquil surroundings, making it a favorite among nature lovers, trekkers, and photographers.
According to local legends and mythology, Deoria Tal is believed to be the place where the Pandavas were questioned by Yaksha in the Mahabharata. The lake is considered sacred and holds spiritual significance for locals and pilgrims alike.
Deoria Tal is accessible via a short 2–3 km trek from Sari Village, which is the nearest road-head. The trail is gentle and scenic, suitable for beginners and families. On reaching the lake, one is greeted by panoramic views of snow-clad peaks like Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and Nilkantha. The calm waters, surrounding meadows, and rich birdlife make it a peaceful retreat, perfect for camping or day trips.
It's also part of longer trekking routes like the Chopta–Tungnath–Chandrashila circuit, making it a popular stop for trekkers exploring the region. The best time to visit Deoria Tal is from March to June and September to November, when the skies are clear and the views are spectacular.
