Bagini Glacier
The Bagini Glacier Trek is a thrilling high-altitude trek located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. It typically takes 6 to 9 days and covers around 40-60 km through stunning alpine meadows, dense forests, and rugged glacier terrain. The trek offers breathtaking panoramic views of Himalayan peaks like Trishul, Changbang, Kalanka, and Dunagiri.
Ideal for adventure seekers with moderate to good fitness, the trek includes camping in remote villages and base camps, allowing trekkers to experience the serene beauty of the Himalayas and the rich local culture. The best time to undertake this trek is from May to June and September to October.
Start early from Haridwar and enjoy a scenic drive (about 10-11 hours) through the Garhwal Himalayas, passing towns like Rishikesh, Devprayag, and Chamoli. Arrive in Joshimath, a spiritual town and base for many treks. Overnight stay in a guesthouse or hotel.
Drive from Joshimath to Jumma village, the trailhead for the trek. Begin trekking through forests and small hamlets to reach Ruing Village. The trek on this day is gentle and good for acclimatization. Camp overnight or stay in local guesthouses.
Continue trekking uphill through dense forests of pine and oak, crossing small streams and beautiful landscapes. Reach Dronagiri Village, a quaint Himalayan settlement surrounded by towering peaks. Camp or stay in guesthouses.
This is a challenging day with a steady ascent to the base camp near the Bagini Glacier. Trek through alpine meadows and rocky paths. The views of surrounding snow-capped peaks become more dramatic. Set up camp at Bagini Base Camp.
Spend the day exploring the Bagini Glacier area. Trek closer to the glacier, enjoying breathtaking views of peaks like Changbang and Dunagiri. Return to the base camp for overnight stay. This day offers the highlight of the trek.
Begin your descent along the trail, retracing your steps through forests and villages. The long trek downhill can be tiring but rewarding with changing landscapes. Camp or stay overnight at Ruing Village.
Complete the trek to Jumma and then take a drive back to Joshimath. Enjoy some leisure time in Joshimath and prepare for the return journey. Overnight stay in Joshimath.
Drive back to Haridwar, concluding the trek with memories of stunning Himalayan views and serene landscapes. Arrive by evening.
