Rishikesh
**Kunjapuri Devi Mandir**, located near **Rishikesh** in Uttarakhand, is a revered **Shaktipeeth** and one of the most spiritually significant temples in the region. Perched at an altitude of about **1,650 meters**, it is dedicated to **Goddess Durga** and holds deep mythological importance as it is believed to be the place where the **chest of Goddess Sati** fell when Lord Shiva carried her burning body across the sky. This makes it one of the 52 sacred Shaktipeeths in India.
The temple is not only a pilgrimage site but also a place of breathtaking natural beauty. After climbing a flight of around **300 steps**, visitors are rewarded with **panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks** like **Swargarohini, Gangotri, Banderpunch**, and **Chaukhamba**, along with the **Ganga valley below**. It is especially popular for witnessing **sunrise**, when the sky lights up in golden hues and the mountains shine with morning glory.
Kunjapuri attracts devotees, trekkers, and yoga practitioners from Rishikesh and beyond. Many prefer to **hike or cycle up** from Tapovan through scenic mountain trails. The temple sees a huge gathering during **Navratri** and other Durga festivals. Despite its religious importance, the temple remains peaceful, making it perfect for prayer, meditation, or simply soaking in the tranquil energy of the Himalayas.
Whether you're a spiritual seeker, a sunrise lover, or an adventurer, **Kunjapuri Devi Mandir** offers a divine blend of devotion and natural beauty.
