Bamsaru Khal Trek
The Bamsaru Khal Trek is a captivating high-altitude journey through the lesser-explored Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Reaching elevations up to 4,600 meters (15,091 feet), this trek offers breathtaking views of prominent peaks such as Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag, and the Gangotri range . Spanning approximately 60 to 75 kilometers over 7 to 9 days, the trail meanders through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and deodar, expansive alpine meadows, and pristine glacial streams .
Starting from villages like Agoda or Raithal, trekkers traverse ancient routes that historically connected the sacred sites of Gangotri and Yamunotri . The path leads through the ASI Ganga Valley, the upper reaches of the Hanuman Ganga River, and offers panoramic vistas from vantage points like Darwa Pass . The region is rich in biodiversity, with opportunities to spot rare alpine flora and fauna.
The best times to undertake the Bamsaru Khal Trek are during May to June and September to October, when the weather is generally clear and the landscapes are at their most vibrant . Due to its moderate to difficult terrain and high altitude, the trek is recommended for experienced trekkers with good physical fitness.
